Infra Sound
So what is this infra sound or what
is an infrawoofer?
Simply put, Subwoofer is not a correct term but it's use is
so widespread it has become a part of the vernacular, but it's
still incorrect, the correct and technical term is actually
Infrawoofer. Pro Audio Reference online engineers index of technical
terms states:
subsonic -Having a speed less than that of sound in a designated
medium.
A subwoofer A large woofer
loudspeaker designed to reproduce audio's very bottom-end, i.e.,
approximately the last one or two octaves,
from 20 Hz to 80-100 Hz. Actually misnamed since subsonic means
slower than audio, while infrasonic means lower than audio,
it should be called an "infrawoofer." IEEE
Subwoofer is an erroneous term and
the correct and technical term is infrawoofer.

Webster's Dictionary defines infrasonic,
or infrasound, as
"1: having or relating to a frequency below the audibility
range of the human ear."
"2: utilizing or produced by infrasonic waves or vibrations."
Infrasound occurs naturally - from waves pounding shores, storms,
earthquakes, meteors hitting the atmosphere. Longer pipes in
church organs also create infrasound, which many believe gives
the music a particular atmospheric power. Whales send messages
at low frequencies - sonic postcards delivered across the earth's
surface. The paralysing effect of a tiger's roar is said by
some to come from its infrasonic content (around 18Hz, the resonant
frequency of the human eyeball, alarmingly). Even before you
hit infrasound, lower frequencies can have a heightened emotional
effect: the wavelengths are too long for us to pinpoint, adding
a sense of uncertainty. The nail-crunching vertigo of the film
Cliffhanger, composer Trevor Jones recorded music and then slowed
the tape to capitalise on the unsettling effect.
Vibrating man made structures stimulate the artificial generation
of dangerous infrasound. When turns are made at 60 miles per
hour, car chassis vibrations produce a peak infrasonic emission.
Travel sickness can be associated with prolonged infrasonic
exposure to any vibrating chassis. Ships, cars, buses, trains,
motorcycles, and jets alike each register hazardous intensities
of infrasound. Each transportation mode has its characteristic
infrasonic pitch, the necessary outcome of mechanical frictions
and inertial resistances. There is difficulty in recording and
reproducing ultra deep tones for study and analysis. They have
to be generated on site for experimental purposes.
Theatre-sized sound systems can never completely transmit all
of the sensations associated with naturally occurring infrasound.
But there have been instances where audiences have become frighteningly
ill because of the accidental generation of infrasound in a
theatre space.
The only film to ever hint at the power of infrasound was the
1964 classic Children of the Damned, in which 6 advanced super
natural children from around the world use a massive church
organ to hold forte against an aggressive army with the intention
of kill them.
They used a large church organ to produce infra waves to stun
and even kill the malicious humans intent on using them for
there own personal gains.
Truth is stranger than fictions, there are some reports of government
agencies using infrasonic for stealth weaponry and government
agencies have invested in many programs in the research and
understanding of infra sonics.
Preliminary research show that transmitting data at such a low
carrier wave is problematic as the shift in air speed would
affect the signal, there is so much more to discover in this
wave length for many purposes.
The Chi that advanced martial arts and Chinese heeling practitioners
use are also understood to be at infra wave lengths.
This allows flesh and bone to break bricks and perform seemingly
superhuman feats, This in our philosophy is because these frequencies,
such as deep bass music stimulates parts of the mental energy
that can calm and help centre us, or excite and energies our
bodies in ways science does not yet fully understand.
