The design
Shadow Works Goliath is the last chapter of subwoofers
design.
Components only chosen for their sonic qualities,
every part has been over designed & engineered.
The exotic & elaborate magnetic circuit was
mathematically modelled and only made possible
by the advancement of magnet technology in the
last few years. Utilizing the most powerful rare
sintered earth magnet available today, neodymium
N42. Massive iron cast plates draw all the magnetic
force, BL 26.80 at room temperature into the magnetic
B field gap, creates an extremely intense magnetic
field for the voice coil and contains reverse
field modulation.
The Goliath has an ultra stable symmetrical magnetic
field that is beyond the cycle of the coil and
suspension system, hence the voice coil is always
within a controlling flux field and will never
suffer non linear travel distortion that is typical
of standard magnetic systems and long voice coil
designs. This system has the accuracy of a short
coil in a large gap but with the performance of
a long coil, the best of both designs.
This yields the most focus accurate bass response
with startling results with ten times in order
of magnitude reduction in driver distortion that
we can measure.
A high carbon content fibre impregnated paper
cone that is chemically bonded to a Kevlar woven
UV stable ultra rigid cone that suffers no cone
break up in its designed frequency range ATC style
82.02mm high tension wound coil, quad wound with
Long grain crystal high purity copper wire on
a Glass Polyimide former which has excellent heat
rejections, a large vented high pressure yoke
with rear spider venting is a secondary cooling
system for heat removal from the coil.
Only a precision cast aluminium chassis could
be used for such an audacious design. High compression
and tensile strength design with zero resonance
and chromium plated. Plus ultra low cone to chassis
reflections is the perfect skeletal frame for
a Goliath. High stability composite foamed chlorobutyl
rolled surround is used to give maximum internal
damping and linear excursion, the new tall surround
system was rejected as it offered very little
lateral control of cone motion at high excursion.
The only benefit of the new tall surround is a
larger cone area but that only adds mass and more
inter-modulation at the cone edge and this severe
cone break-up is unacceptable for the best sound
quality; high tension chrome vanadium spring loaded
terminals for secure termination of up to 8 gauge
cable. The final driver coupling is with an integrated
high pressure gasket, rated at 30psi for high
pressure sealed systems.
The Goliath has an astounding sound quality without
exception. Under Resonance Principal, this is
simply a heart stopping infrawoofer.
Years of work, designing and testing have yielded
one of the most competent, powerful and respectable
drive units we have ever heard. The most Incredible
dynamic range, spatial staging, tonal and transient
detail are the best we have heard in a single
unit so far, a technical tour de force, this monolith
is a true virtuoso in every possible way.
